Well, I can't comment on the overall quality of sony cameras, but the sears website says this camera has a Zeiss lens. I didn't know Zeiss made camera lenses, but Zeiss has a reputation for making spectacular binocular/telescope lenses. For $150 and a Zeiss lens, it sounds pretty good to me.
