Sympatico--> what if you receive a warning letter for downloading stuff, What's next?
If someone gets this kinda warning letter the first time, what does Sympatico do if it happens the second time?
What does someone have to do in order to protect itself from getting these letters in the futurer?
I've posted this message in Computers and electronics but i am not sure where to post it.
So, i appologize for future inconvenience.
Regards

it's for the stuff i am downloading, movies
I had a warning letter back in the beginning of the year for movie download, with my IP and account name, etc.
It says in the letter:
"Under your agreement with Bell Sympatico and according to our acceptable
use policy (http://aup.sympatico.ca) you are prohibited from using our
service to engage in activities that infringe copyright. This letter is
to notify you that should Sympatico receive any further complaints
regarding alleged copyright infringement associated with your account;
your Sympatico service may be suspended or terminated without prior
notice as per our acceptable use policy.

then tone down your upload limit with your bt, we all use BT all the time with sympatico, never any complaints cuz we tone down the upload speed. but my guess is that your account is now flagged, better quit sympatico and sign up to one of their third party dealers like inter.net or 3web, same services, cheaper too heh

I thought Sympatico doesn't have a limit. How did they find out you're downloading movies oto? Everyone does it! Unless you've got like 200GBs than i guess its obviously movies. But all my firends that have Bell at school abused it over 100GB each month and nothing.

How do i know they know?
Cause i got the letter from Sympatico that they Received from the States tracking my IP:
"Bell Sympatico received a complaint claiming that activities associated
with your account infringed copyright protected material, where this
material is owned or exclusively licensed by the complainant. As you
know, copyright infringement is an illegal activity."
They supplied me with Movie name, Group Release, all the Timestamps.

I also got one 2 years ago from cogeco. At the time I was using edonkey. I have since switched p2p applications several times, and am now stuck on newsgroups. You can find any release you want and download it at 1 MB/s. The best part is that most servers don't collect information on what you download, so you don't have to worry about your ip and the riaa/mpaa.

They tell you that you can have unlimited connections, not unlimited data transfer totals. You've made the same mistake that everyone did when all isps started capping. If you exceed a pre-determined amount, they can, and will cut you off. If it's the content, then you can tell them so Foff because it's illegal for them to be able to monitor the exact content. If they identify a torrent (ie. you aren't using encryption) then they may throttle your connection and you'll get low speeds, or periodic disconnects.
Since they are talking about "copyright" then they can probably tell you are doing p2p file sharing. Move to a torrent client that enables encryption ( ie. Azureus, or uTorrent) and they won't be able to tell what you are doing, they will only be able to tell how much data you are transferring. No more issues about copyright infringement. They may tell you that your DL amount is too high, which they can enforce.
The agreement doesn't protect you, they've already confirmed that for all isps.

Wow now Sympatico has started to send letters out? Least you don't have a cap although there is one from what I heard but thats only if you download an insane amount in a day.

Call em up and cancel, and when they ask why, tehn tell them because of the stupid letters, and that you will take your business elsewhere.
