AT&T 16gb data on prepaid for $40 US with autopay

Deal Link:
Price:
$40 US
Savings:
Double dat
Expiry:
July 11, 2019
Retailer:
AT&T
US AT&T prepaid sim card, previously 8gb for 1 month, unlimited text and calling to Canada and Mexico, now at 16GB data, tethering included while roaming.

https://www.att.com/prepaid/double-data-offer.html

I had the 8GB plan since September 2018 and been in Canada using it with no issues. Data is fast LTE, coverage where Rogers normally has. They beefed it up to 16GB now.

You need to get the sim card, prepaid voucher and call it in to activate. Need to attach a US zip code/address. Use your prepaid voucher to activate then add your credit card when you log in to the portal after account setup to sign up for auto pay which saves you an extra $10. Making this plan $40 US a month.

Nice deal, and good to hear that you have been able to use it since September with no issues. AT&T has warned on this previously:

If talk, text or data usage in Mexico and/or Canada exceeds 50% for two consecutive billing cycles, AT&T may remove roaming feature.

Edit: This thread claims that the warning is no longer applicable:

Dumb question.
I am assuming you have to get a US number?
Can't port CDN number over?

Thanks

Nope. You have to get a US number. However, you can port your Canadian number to a VOIP provider and use it on your phone.

Good deal if you’re travelling to the US sometimes, or can use US number as your primary.

For everyone else, $40 USD = ~55 CAD after exchange and Foreign Transaction Fees. I guess it's still a savings of $10/month over the 10gb (now) $65 plans. But you’re paying for that with the US number, time and hassle to get this deal, imho.

Why can’t you just port your Canadian Number to AT&T?

Because US phone providers can't have a Canadian number and vice versa.

Because it's a different country?

Same reason you can't bring a German or UK phone number when signing on with Bell.

You can’t compare it with that plan. Don’t forget you’re having 16Gb instead of 10Gb...
