Just got an email offering 3.00% interest rate to my accounts. Ends June 30 2019.
Same offer here.
I accepted it but won't consider moving money until my Simplii 3.15% and Meridian 3.15% have expired.
What if there were no hypothetical questions?

What about the Scotia bank deal at 3.19% for next 3 months? Any downside?

Tangerine is really getting worse. I have been their loyal clients for many years. I did not receive info on either the 3.00% (till June 30, 2019) or 2.75% (till Nov 30, 2019) promotion. Called in, and she said she can activate the 3.00% one. But the other one does not exist. She also does not seem to care if we transfer our funds out!

For the first time got the offer 2.75% until Sep 30. Don't have savings from them since last yr. Not sure if there's any better for this, Hubert is just 2.5%.

Buying any kind of GIC is a low-risk, low reward investment. Therefore one should stay with Lo risk issuers.
For the paltry rates being offered, it is not worth it to gamble with smaller less diversified players.
Each account is insured only to 100k.
For better return bank dividendsand some ETFs are worthwhile, but of course market risk applies.

FWIW - Motive Financial offers 2.80% on its savings account ("Savvy Savings"). Motive is owned by Canadian Western Bank, a big player in the Western market.

I've been playing the Tangerine-Simplii hopscotch game for several years now but for 2.80% I'll gladly park my money at Motive. I usually lose a few days' interest with every transition anyway, when the money is sitting in the chequing account waiting for a new offer. Looking forward to leaving my money to sit for several years without playing the offer game! :)

PS. The Savvy Savings account only offers two free withdrawals (to an outside bank) a month - but that's just fine if all you want to do is leave your money to earn interest.
