Taxed on stamps at SDM?
I thought stamps were not taxable? My $15 of stamps came out to $16.05 at SDM.

GST only on stamps.
Been like that for ages now.
There are a few things that are not taxable in a pharmacy, of which include the following:
Prescrption drugs,
Water,
Diapers,
Adult undergarmets (diapers heh),
Anythign else?

If you send mail to a destination outside of Canada and it costs more than $5 in postage then you do not have to pay GST.

In most cases it cannot happen that you are charged tax on INTL bills of $5 ore more. If the postage is printed out from their system it automatically will not have tax on the bill.
Problems can happen at Staples who do not have their cash linked to the postal computer the way they are in drug store outets.
Problems can also happen if you are sending items the staff decided to just put stamps on instead of printing out the postage which may happen at some outlets if you just sent something like a couple of oversized letters. They then have to remember to overide the cash which has no idea what the stamps are being purchased for and will normally charge tax.
The exemption only applies if you mail the items right when you purchase the postage. There is no GST exemption if you buy a book of international stamps and take them home to put on your envelopes yourself.
I have been overcharged tax on several occassions at 2 outlets, and I have made both of them correct the error. Paying an extra 7% is minor though compared to some of the overcharging they have attemted to bill me for - 700% ($44 instead of $5.75) once at staples!_______________

Were yours domestic or international? Remember that it has to be an international delivery over $5 in order that no GST be applied. Let the clerk know the next time you erroneously get charged GST and direct them to the Canada Post website.
