I bought this cpu yesterday. Noticed on check out I was billed for shipping. It was my understanding that 12/12/12 was a free-shipping day. Can you clarify this?

Other people who ordered said item reported getting free shipping...

Good things come to people who ask.... Either that (or angry beatdowns with a keyboard).

As an aside... I found a case that I am interested in (unfortunately Canada Comp might be out of stock... shipping from neweggs would cost me 10-15$ more). If you are like me and thinking of making a htpc. And also not afraid of ubuntu (I hate windows 8, and windows doesn't make a great media os in my opinion... ubuntu runs so smoothly) anyway, here are some remotes that I can suggest (bored today so looked them up):
http://www.amazon.com/Panda-150Mbps-Wir ... 20UALM7KCM
http://www.amazon.com/HP-Infrared-Recei ... JIRMRPE9PZ
http://www.amazon.com/Azend-MediaGate-G ... WCF10ALT60

These will work on windows or apple os as well...

Nice job!

I just sent off the same request, hope it goes through. It's only 5 bucks but that's a good size percentage of the total cost of the CPU.

Thanks for sharing.

I bought this board from TD to go with that chip...GIGABYTE GA-A55M-DS2 AMD A Series Motherboard - Micro ATX, Socket FM1, AMD A55 Chipset, 1866MHz DDR3, SATA II (3Gb/s), RAID, 7.1-CH Audio, Gigabit LAN, USB 2.0. It came with $10 mail in rebate. Got it for $39 including the rebate. I hope it's a good board...All i need now is cheap RAM and I'm all set...Of course it didn't even occur to me about not have HDMI till after...Oh well..

GA-A75-UD4H FM1 mobo, $70 at ME. OOS online but if you're in Calgary:

http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX34231

And there's a $20 MIR on this board until 12/31/2012. Not advertised at ME but it's generic, i.e. not tied to any specific store so it might work.

http://img.canadacomputers.com/ProductI ... Canada.pdf

This looks like a good board to pair with the APU.

Might pick up both at ME and submit GB $20 rebate form for this MB.

$95 for both AR is not too shabby.

Don't need mATX.

I have a heat sink and fan from an old Athlon 64 processor (socket 754). Will that be compatible with this processor and its FM1 motherboard mount?

NO.
FM1 is only compatible with FM1 cpu (maybe fm2?).
FM1 motherboards are for cpu+gpu all in one processors.
Old athlon 64 wouldn't work on this.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socket_FM1

See the bottom of the wiki page for the different sockets.
I'd assume socket 754 wouldn't work on am2 or am3 motherboards either.
I'm not an expect though.

He's asking about the fan and sink, not the cpu itself. Pretty sure AMD has kept the same heat sink mount from socket 754 on(754, 939, AM2, AM3, FM1 are all compatible)
