Interested as well. Is there an annual account fee for TD? If so, a $100 bonus and then they take back the $100 as account fee.

There's also this important tidbit:
Qualifying Product(s)
  • TD Canada Trust non-cashable Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) with a maturity of 1 year or more.
  • An eligible TD Mutual Fund or TD Managed Assets Program portfolio; and a Pre-Authorized Purchase Plan ("PPP") in the New RRSP or New TFSA, with a minimum monthly investment of $25 by February 9, 2020. The first PPP transaction must be made by March 2 , 2020, and the PPP must be maintained until April 30, 2020.

Can this be done online? That is without visiting a branch.

Unless you plan to keep the money with TD long term, this is reduced by the TFSA/RRSP transfer fee (75$ + tax = 84.75$ as of 2016). Their GICs suck as well so placing something into 1 yr GIC (RRSP or TFSA) and then having to transfer the money out will result in a loss compared to putting your money into a different investment at your current bank. If your scenario involves more than 1000$ then your loss would be greater.

Now I don't feel so bad about missing out on this. I had fat fingers on Dec 31 and pushed in $6000 into the TFSA forgetting about this deal. You can always withdraw the cash at the end of the term and close the account? (TFSA, doing this with an RRSP would be a nightmare)

I did this over the phone, like in 5 minutes.

like others suggested, only put in $1000 to max the benefit.
