[Telus] TELUS giving away free HP laptop when you sign up for high speed

If you’re not already with Telus for high speed, now is a pretty good time to get signed up. They’re giving away a free HP laptop for customers who sign up for 3 years. It comes with a modem that’s also a wireless one, so you don’t need to run out and buy a separate wireless router. Monthly fee is also a pretty sweet deal at $32 a month.

I smell Telus employee :)

This is a terrible deal. You mentionted it's $20/mo. But that's only for first 6 months. After that, it's going to be $32/mo.

Essentially you are paying for the laptop. There's absolutely nothing hot about this deal. :!: :!:

This deal is so cold it's below absolute zero.

Reasons:
-3 year contract.
-Who doesn't give you a modem nowadays? "Oh but this one has wireless!" Yeah, I'd rather snail mail packets to myself than use a 2wire.
-"Free" notebook. After a 3 year contract. Basically used to sucker the stupid.
-I see they started on the 1/2 price until X thing too.
-$37 a month

I'd take Teksavvy without the free notebook any day of the week.

laptop specs and more info...

Processor AMD Athlon II (M320-2.1 GHz)
LCD Display 15.6-in HD display with BrightviewTM technology
Memory 3GB (shared) DDR2 SDRAM
Hard Drive 320GB
Wireless 802.11b/g
Battery 6 cell (up to 7 hours battery life)
Operating System Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Web cam / mic 1.3MP
Hardware warranty 1 Year
MSRP $599
Weight 2.7 kg (5.9 lbs)
Colour Black

basically.... not bad if you were thinking of buying a laptop anyways or needed one and couldn't afford it. You'd be paying for internet during that timeframe anyways. 37.00/mo BUT with home phone or TV service it's 32.00
Currently you can't layer promo's so it would be 32.00 for most people right off the bat.
Cancellation for the 3yr term is 17/mo for whatever is left
The 2wire is not provided... it would be a siemens modem unit (gateway)

The OP should put "3yr contract" in the title, since it's an essential part of the "deal".

It could be a deal for a small percentage of people who would pay Telus full price for internet service and who happen to want a laptop just like they're offering. But not likely many people want to sign a 3 year contract with Telus.

I remember when they initially ran this offer a few years ago, the laptops barely had eneough memory to handle Windows Vista. At least the laptop has decent specs (despite the CPU brand).
