Ford's change to OHIP+ is confusing to me. Given OHIP+ will cover children without private health insurance, why would anybody buy insurance for their children?

It was very recent change by last government. So I guess it was not there before.
You guys seem trapped by the confines of your own ideologies.

Platinum insurance plans are still a thing, I believe. Nice little bump in convenience, they also include things like generous optical, dental, podiatry (if memory serves), etc.

You'll find this more commonly among the upper middle class and above.

This

Because there are some things not covered by OHIP
Especially in the areas of dental, optical, hospital stays (semi private / private vs wards), physio, drugs etc

Most folks who have EXTRA INSURANCE do so because they have a job where it’s offered as a benefit thru work

So it’s relatively cheap and the premiums are low for a Single, Couple, or Family (Plus Employer pays a portion or because of Bulk Buy) vs the high amounts collected back annually by the user

Exactly. That's why a lot of people like me who pay for our own individual/family plans have dropped medication coverage for our kids.

You better take the fine print to your doctor before signing so he can explain to you how the insurance company will manage to not pay when you have a claim. I'm serious.

That is why I prefer a health spending account. I have decided to get a dental only plan.
