Is there anyway to access highway camera footage from the past?

Was in a really bad accident couple weeks back and was just wondering if I could access the cam footage of the accident. It was on DVP and Sheppard and im sure there are cameras set up at that location as we can view it live but how do I access previous footage. I know the date and time it occurred.

My buddy pulled MTO camera footage for a court case a few years ago. MTO billed him about $200-$300 to create a copy of the footage

Hello

Thank you for taking the time to contact the Ministry of Transportation's Customer Service Office.

COMPASS
COMPASS is the name applied to the ministry's freeway traffic management system. COMPASS is deployed along several provincial highways within the GTA - primarily 400 series highways, and the QEW.
In regards to your specific enquiry, the Ministry of Transportation Traffic Operations Centre records a six second "tour" of all of the traffic cameras - approximately 70 in Toronto, on an ongoing basis. The video recordings are kept for approximately 5 weeks.

In order to view a tape, you must submit a request to the Freedom of Information Office (FOI) by sending your request in writing to:
Freedom of Information and Privacy Office
777 Bay Street
27th Floor, Suite 2703
Toronto, Ontario M7A 2J8
Telephone: 416-212-1894
Fax: 416-212-1897
E-mail: foi@ontario.ca

Please note that when you are making the request, you should also include:
* a blank video tape
* two separate cheques or money orders made payable to the Minister of Finance:
- one cheque or money order should be in the amount of $5.00 for the application fee
- the other cheque or money order should be in the amount of $60.00 to cover the search fee
Once the request is received by the FOI Office, the search is done. If there is no evidence of the incident on the video tape, the blank video tape and the search fee of $60.00 is returned to you.
If you have further questions, you can call the FOI Office directly at (416) 212-1894. Their fax number is (416) 212-1897.

We thank you for your inquiry and encourage you to contact us in the future, as we continually strive to improve our service to our customers.

Sincerely,

Louise
