Is there going to be a messenger app for the iPhone anytime soon?

I would love to have a messenger app that can be used with yahoo or msn. I really dislike how the 3G app store only has AIM.. Have they forgotten that we're canadian? Anyhow, has anyone heard of any word about an app that allows instant messaging for the 3G iphone? Of course, an app that would work with a legit iPhone. I don't want to void my warranty.
