Are there plans to add TV shows to Canadian XBOX Marketplace?
I'd seriously buy an X360 and cancel my cable TV right now if it was available....
Is there any product in Canada that offers TV service over the internet, like the XBOX Marketplace in the US? I know Apple TV doesn't... no other ideas of similar products.

I fell the same way. The Marketplace for Xbox Canada is a joke. Even more restrictions are visible when using the Media Centre Edition and many of the online media services reject my IP adress. With the arrival of Netflix for US only, the situation is even more aggravating. Not sure who's to blame for this, MS Canada or the CRTC, but here I am willing to pay for downloadable content instead of pirating, only to be rejected by region restrictions

i believe the blame is solely on the CRTC. MS is on a gold mine, there's no way they wouldn't offer us the same service if it wasn't for all those stupid restrictions put up by the CRTC

Seriously, the CRTC is beyond useless. All they do is block Canadians from accessing quality content. Sigh.

If they do it'll probably be lame, like when we finally got TV shows on iTunes and they added crap like little Mosque on the Prairie and one or two american shows, but nothing from the likes of NBC, ABC, FOX, etc.
I would less blame the CRTC, but the puppeteers pulling the CRTC's strings, the likes of Rogers and Bell who directly or indirectly own almost all the content coming in to canada from outside sources. They would much rather you pay for their services than download episodes off the internet.

Yeah. My understanding its that its distribution rights that hold things up.
Global or CTV etc etc might have rights to a certain show in Canada that includes both on tv and the internet\Xbox. So just because the US rights have been secured, the Canadian rights have to be secured separately.

With the launch of the new Xbox Experience coming in the next month or so here it would really be a shame if they aren't going to put some work into the Canadian marketplace.
They are really trying to push the whole one stop entertainment thing and they aren't really supporting the Canadian marketplace, despite it probably being a pretty large portion of their userbase.
Eh, guess we'll see.

Bell Globemedia owns CTV Canwest. Rogers owns chum city. All of the stations that "import" the American shows are essentially owned by Rogers and Bell and even though we have access to those American stations directly, we can't have direct access to their content on the internet.

Yeah, there are over 1 million 360s sold in Canada. I think heard that per person that more xboxs are sold in canada than the states

Yeah but that means nothing when the population of your whole country cant even match the population of a state.

There is only one state that has a greater population than that of Canada.
