I go to centennial college, in the Automotive Technician program, and I can't tell u how much our teacher's stress that you should only use Manufacturer recommened transmission fluid when dealing with automatic transmissions. For manual transmissions, the synthetic fluid would be fine (and a waste of money) but for automatic, STICK WITH THE MANUFACTURERS FLUID!!!!!!!!!

Agree.
For manual transmission, synthetic is better but for auto, stick with manufacturer's recommendation.

GM synchromesh was what I used as well. The difference was definitely noticeable. Without it I would get the 2nd gear grind in cold weathers, with it I do not notice it at all.
When I had tranny work done I didn't specify with fluid to use. On my next oil/brake job I'm switching back.

GM Synchromesh is NOT synthetic. It's a GrIII hydrocracked oil.

If it's for an auto tranny, I'd also stick to the manufacturer's oil, or email Redline for their recommendation. If they don't make a compatible fluid they'll tell you, no bull$hit there. I use Redline D4 ATF in my parents' Passat and it's awesome. All VW auto trannies work very well with Redline D4 ATF.

Motul has some syn blends as well. If it says Technosynthese it's not 100% synthetic...

Most people I talk to recommend RedLine MTL or MT-90 depending on the car. I'm going to be picking up some of both for when I do my flush in a month or so.
