A new product from the makers of the fabulous ThermaPen, this is a cheaper alternative. While its new and there aren't many reviews/comments on it, hopefully it's a good product.

They are $24 each for now, $21 each with orders of 5+. The MSRP will be $30. Shipping is with FedEx $14 flat, apparently taxes will be paid for so we don't get surprised at the door. Group buys maybe? ;)

A cheaper alternative and pretty accurate when "calibrated" against professional instrument. http://www.meritline.com/digital-thermo ... 28321.aspx

I have two of this unit. While it's accurate, it is slow. I cannot emphasize enough how slow this unit is to display an accurate reading. I stick it in a roast, and you watch it slowly climb from ambient to the true temperature, literally taking 1.5 - 2.5 minutes. This is not an exaggeration. This was a real pain when I was slow cooking or smoking over charcoal, as it unnecessarily lets out a lot of heat waiting for a reading.

I absolutely love my ThermaPen but I would have been much happier if they made a device that could be left in a piece of meat the entire time, like something that is oven safe.
