Thinkpad X61t keeps on pausing...

So I just installed a new SSD (SP S60) on a X61T with Win10.

Things are working well, but sometimes Chrome will pause for 60 seconds at a time. When that happens, the HD activity light will come on, and pressing crtl-alt-del does nothing. It can pause in this fashion say 3 times in an hour.

How can I troubleshoot this further?

thanks

Using Chrome v46.0.2490.80 m (64-bit)

Extensions? Under Settings>System>Use hardware acceleration when available? Have you even test it with Firefox or Edge?

just in case -- check SMART on disk.

Exactly 60 sec delay I saw connected with
some network-related delays.
Something like faulty local DNS service and
60 sec timeout waiting this service...

may be Chrome is waiting (/ no-answer / timeout) for some home-reporting service, or
ad-loading service...or some pre-fetch service...

Pretty sure this activity is related to TRIM.
When you installed this SSD did you reinstall (clean) OS or just cloned it? If cloned it maybe it is using Intel storage driver. Remove it and use Windows build-in AHCI one.

Oops, I've just seen you was talking about Win10. I have no experience with Win10 but I had exactly the same issues you described on Win7 when I migrated to SSD on my old ThinkPad.

Oddly enough, I had this problem on my Lenovo/IBM Thinkpad x61s with an SSD. I could not get it figured out. The system would freeze up for 30-40 seconds at random intervals. I was using the Bigfoot controller at the time. I ended up upgrading to the X200 and the SSD was perfect so I figured it was something with the chipset/SSD compatibility.

I have an x61s with a clean install of windows 10 and a kingston v300 SSD.

I get similar behaviour where everything goes unresponsive (mouse still moves) but I can't click or type anything. everything comes back after 30 seconds or so. kinda annoying and usually only happens after I resume from sleep. I suspect there's something going on with the page file where things are getting swapped back and forth in large quantities...

I'm using all the default drivers from win10 as there's basically no manufacturer win10 drivers in existance. =(

Well you guys might try flashing your SSD with the latest firmware and or update your Bios. Also try installing Intel Chipset Device Software and also make sure to check if you are using AHCI in the Bios for your SSD.

How to Switch from IDE to AHCI without repairing/reinstalling windows

Type:
-"msconfig" in Run without quotes
-select "Boot" tab and select "Safe Boot" and restart the computer
-during POST hit your key to enter BIOS and change your IDE to AHCI
-save and exit and it will boot into your Windows 10 SAFE MODE
-type in "msconfig" and uncheck "Safe Boot" and restart.

confirmed bios was and is set to AHCI

tried to update SSD's firmware, Silicon Power's utility is retard3d
I tested as Admin, compatibility settings, didn't work.

Try running Fedora 14 or whatever version will work on a USB with this or try taking the SSD out and flash it with a computer that have Windows 7.

great... I should've listened to you LEXX, instead I ran the Phison sata toolbox, updated the firmware (worked).
Upon reboot however, the bios can't recognize the SSD anymore... anything else to try here or it goes back to the store?

Have you try taking it out to check to see if it detect by other computer or try a Linux distro to see if it's detecting it?
