[Canada Computers] Thomson DCM476 DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem - $77.35 (GTA, YMMV)

http://www.ashlin.ca/i/Cable_Modems_Tho ... 3.htm#tabs

Several wholesalers/distributors seem to be selling this and the DCM475 (check shopbot) at $75-80. If you're in the GTA you can pick it up for free at the warehouse in Concord, otherwise shipping is $20 from Ashlin. I was able to PM the Ashlin price for the DCM476 at the College St. Canada Computers and most of their other stores have stock too (http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_ ... _id=049438). The price match is obviously YMMV if you're outside of the GTA. Still, if you can manage it it's a $20 discount over what most ISPs like TekSavvy, Start & Distributel sell the modem for, and some also charge $10 shipping.

In Quebec, VT only allows DCM475 for speed more than 25M.

I am using distributel right now (GTA) and was given the huawei modem (MT130U, $5/mo rental). As far as I know (did quite some research prior to switching to distributel) they don't accept BYO modem anymore since years ago.
The huawei modem is docsis 3.0 also.
Might be better getting Motorola SB6120/6121 modem if you can find it (around $99).

They do it for 3web billing accounts.

Teksavvy gives a $20 discount when buying the modem directly from them so it equals out
So still better to buy from them?

Yes, in order to get warranty and support from teksavvy if something is wrong with it.

But what about the $10 shipping?

If you buy the modem from them, the only thing i believe they give you is the 1 year manufacture's warranty which should still be valid. I dont see why they would not give you service if you source your modem elsewhere because this is also on their list of approved modems

Works for Distributel right?
Dunno, you could call and ask if they'd let you or try renting and cancel, though that doesn't seem to be worth the effort. I got it for Start mostly because they don't have the $20 discount for modem purchase that TekSavvy does, so this balances it out. Plus there's no need to wait for shipping.

It should work on Rogers too if you're out of free modem rental promotions.

I am on Electronic Boxes 60 down 3 up plan with 250GB cap currently with a thomson DCM475. Unsure if they would hook up a DCM476 or not.

They charge $99 for the modem plus $15 bucks shipping or $20 dollar fee if you use their own.

Thanks for the post. Not sure if I will try to PM Canada Computers, or just get it through Teksavvy. Planning to sign up in the next few days and I'm looking at modem options now.

Gta
i was just looking for a modem yesterday
i've been renting one from Rogers, so can I just buy this one and swap it, and return the old one?
does it also depend on the type of internet service I have with them?

also, anyone know which location is their warehouse?

Actually I read the 475 is better modem than the 476. The 475 has a dual tuner vs a single tuner for the 476. Here's the spec sheets: DCM475 and DCM 476
