i got a ticket on the weekend for "drive motor vehicle, no validation on plate" because the sticker on my plate was expired (it said april 2012). i actually thought april 2012 meant end of april, not april 1st (i am new to owning a vehicle). anyway, is it possible to request an early resolution meeting and in the meantime, get a new sticker, then bring that in to the meeting and have the ticket dropped? does this ticket mean demerit points too?
also, it was in scarborough so it said markham st. office but i live downtown. can i send this notice to the downtown office and attend there instead?

The sticker expires on your birthday, regardless if it's still the same month.
You just normally won't get pulled over for it (since it's not obvious) unless you do something else to call attention.

Simple answer is YES.
Exact same thing happened to me a long time ago. I had actually bought the sticker, but just forgot to put it on my car and it was sitting at home when cop pulled me over. I just requested a first attendance meeting, showed the new sticker, and it was completely thrown out in seconds.

For me, it was many years ago...last century in fact. I was driving my sister's car a cop pulled me over after he followed me for a few blocks - apparently checking the license plate.
At that time, the officer gave me (well, my sister since she was the owner of the vehicle) the opportunity to go and get a sticker, then go to the station to prove that you have the new sticker. After that, they dropped the ticket.
As I do not consider this a moving violation, I don't think this would have any bearing with a rise in your insurance premiums. Can someone verify this? If this in fact the case, I would not bother fighting it...just pay the fine and be on your way. If it is something that money can solve, I say go for it.

You'd be fine regardless, but technically they could ask for the receipt from MTO. If the date/time is after the ticket date/time it is still technically a valid ticket, as you didn't have a sticker at the time. So I wouldn't count on it being an easy-off if you were like the OP. Depends if the one reviewing your ticket is lenient or not.
The weekend was the very end of the month, so sounds like the cop was fishing to fill his quota (which "doesn't exist"
)
Since it was the very end of the month, he'd have a very high chance your april12 sticker was invalid and an easy ticket.

If it happens at the end of the month, then you're right, it makes it very obvious that your sticker is likely expired. So how is that proof he's trying to fill a quota?

Expired sticker can mean a lot of things; unpaid tickets, unpaid 407 bills, suspended license, stolen vehicle, etc.Last edited by AnotherCanuck; May 4th, 2012 at 02:04 PM.

Can someone else besides the owner of the vehicle walk into MTO to renew the plates? For example, owner is wife, husband goes?

It was said earlier they don't usually pull you over during the month of the sticker unless you're doing something else wrong.
And I'm saying that may not be true if its the end of the month and they know its very likely you don't fall in those last couple valid days. And have nothing better to do.

Do it online:

Or go to a kiosk.
It's been ages since I actually set foot in one of their offices.

I got one in Alberta a few years ago, my fault technically but cops are still pricks sometimes for not giving a break. Mine had expired one week previous, I had just moved and it was sent to my old address.. and it was only a week later. I explained this to them and based on the timing that I had just moved into my new place and the mail was sent before I could go to registry and update it but they didn't care.
They said I should be happy for not having my car impounded and facing $1000 charge and a court appearance, how nice of them.
