Ticketmaster = unethical rip-off artists
A couple weeks ago, I bought Zelda Symphony tickets. I had been carrying it around in my bag and it got wet, wiping the ink off the ticket (the barcode portion). I called Ticketmaster to ask for a replacement ticket and they want to charge me $15! Talk about milking. I don't mind paying a penalty as clearly I am at fault for not taking care of my ticket, and I would be more than happy to pay a fair penalty as it would take one of their pencil pushers an extra 10 seconds to reprint the tickets, the cost of physical paper for the ticket stubs + ink, but a FIFTEEN dollar fee on a fifty dollar ticket?
Gouge much?
Besides, they should have provided the barcode as an e-mail ticket in the first place (how hard would it be to do that nowadays? It looks like there's an ulterior motive for not doing so). TM's fees are hidden in the ticket prices we pay. I feel like the least they should be doing is to provide paying customers a way to reprint tickets (possibly by providing e-tickets or not practicing highway robbery).
Finally, NOWHERE in their terms and conditions does it indicate that the replacement fee is a whopping $15. The best it says is "in some cases, a replacement fee may be charged". This is not very transparent and I would not have bought the tickets in the first place if I was better informed.
PS: edited thread title for nitpickers arguing with semantics

I could understand if they charged a NOMINAL fee as it would be a PITA for them to reprint tickets, the cost of physical paper for the ticket stubs + ink, but FIFTEEN dollars on a fifty dollar ticket?

couldn't u reprint it?
i purchased raptors tickets online and forgot it at home, but I just reprinted it..
and next time protect your purse/bag or whatever, having that much water in it isn't good for your stuff

So Ticketmaster does not equal scam, you just don't like the price you paid for replacement tickets.
Be nice if you changed the misleading title of your thread.

They didn't give me a barcode by email, so there's no way for me to reprint it.

Charging $15 for 5 inches of extra ticket stub with ink = highway robbery = SCAM.

I think you mean, ticketmaster = rip off artists which is common knowledge.
Scammers are like rip off artists but rip off artists are generally legal.

Semantics I'd say, and it doesn't make them any less unethical. I'll change the thread title because it looks like there are some TM employees/shareholders on these boards.

Would you complain as much if your cell phone, laptop or iPod also got wet in your bag and when you asked for a replacement, they charged 30% of the original price instead of full price? People here on RFD would be calling that company "the best company ever". But since the company's Ticketmaster, they are thieves because you destroyed your ticket?

would losing your tickets be any different? TM did not lose your tickets but you did, same like you get the tickets wet and not TM.
you should look at the situation from both perspective and not only one.
No i don't work or own part of TM
i'm just trolling like some members say

+1
They are not thieves or scammers, but they have taken the art of the rip off to a whole new level.

Not even close. A ticket is simply a "receipt" of sorts, proof of purchase. Your money bought and paid for the reservation of a seat at the event, not a piece of paper. The paper isn't the product, the reserved seat/allotted space in the venue is
It would be more like a store charging you a $15 fee to re-print off your receipt, or for that matter, an ONLINE store that doesn't email you are receipt and only includes a single physical receipt, then charging you to reprint off that receipt if you needed it to do a return....
I don't disagree with a nominal fee if you required replacement of a physical ticket to cover shipping and processing, but $5 is more than fair. And not providing an email ticket, for ticketmaster, an online service, is just bullcrap. Electronic tickets are standard these days and should be expected when purchasing online - that's half the reason to purchase online, otherwise we might as well return to lining up in first come first serve fashion.....

I understand your point, but I disagree.
While the ticket is also a receipt, the ticket is the item being purchased here, as the ticket has transferable value. A receipt does not. You can't buy seats to an event and give (or sell, when that is legally permitted) them to someone without the tickets.
I've ordered online from Ticketmaster before, and I still have this in my inbox:

The link for these particular tickets is now dead, but when it was active, I was able to print them out and save them as a .pdf.

THIS. People in the thread taking sides with TM's unethical practice are ridiculous and make me suspect that they have some ties to TM. I wish the same things happen on them!

This is why i will never actually order tickets to be printed. Ticketfast is the cheapest and safest way to do tickets.
