Not bad for $150. This is in the class of the core i7 2600k (slightly less in benchmark), and half the price.

So tempted. But I think we are going to see this drop more in price in the near future (every few days it seems to be cheaper somewhere else)
i7 ivy bridge and sandy bridge both outperform on benchmark tests. Also ivy bridge consumes almost half the wattage.

Very surprising, but true. Check out the x264 benchmark:

I've seen similar benchmarks indicating on equal hardware platform the i7 ivy bridge beating the AMD 8 core by as much as 25% on certain processing tasks.
I have an i7 ivy bridge (at work - i.e. what I am browsing rfd on right now), i7 sandy bridge in my laptop and a quad core AMD phenom on my desktop (which I hardly use anylonger).
My experience from frequently being cheap and buying an AMD (as opposed to intel) is that the AMDs always suck more power (and runs hotter) than comparable intel. My first dual core AMD use to heat a room like an oven. Still to this day the quad core has a higher power consumption and also the cpu fan is louder (imo.. to compensate). The major concern with all this is (especially for overclockers) the higher wattage will kill the processor much faster (and with a greater probability). Probably not much of a concern, because if you are aiming for high performance computing (for gaming or whatever) you will be updating the cpu before it becomes obsolete and probably before it dies.
Don't get me wrong, this is a great deal.

I forgot that this was a Vishera CPU. Great value. Great deal. I would probably upgrade, but my motherboard is only AM3 compatible...

benchmark from anandtech shows it comparable to i5 3750k, so it's not much of a saving considering all the heat and power
