Tiles for Shower Stall / Bathtub Ceiling?

My bathroom contractor is advising me to tile the ceiling of the shower stall and the area just above the bathtub. I think this is unnecessary but would like to get some views on this.

I heard that cement board is quite water resistant, so if I don't tile the ceiling, can cement board be used on the ceiling above the shower/bathtub or is there another type of board that is more appropriate?

water resistant drywall (the blue or green stuff) and sheetrock 90 plaster. cement board would have a rough surface and wouldn't look good painted

When I redo my bathroom later this year I plan on going with cement board both on the backwalls as well as ceiling for two reasons.

1st: The cost of cement board is relatively inexpensive considering the amount of labour involved in replacement and is considered very good in regards to moisture resistance with the exception of the membrane material.

2nd: Have you ever notice the amount of moisture on the ceiling of the bathtub/shower stall right after you've taken your shower/bath. Eventually the moisture can seep into or behind the paint and possibly damage the drywall. Tile is just an added protection between the steam created by the hot water. Remember the tile/grout is only as good as it's foundation.

I tiled my shower for aesthetic reasons. Did the walls in 2x3 slate tiles, and some borders, floor and ceiling in slate mosaic. Glad I did it as it really ties everything together.
