I find I can start it way way under 1 second!
Find a shortcut you are using right click and click Properties. Then type: -nohome
at the end of Target area after ...iexplorer" . Please notice the space iexplorer" -nohome... click YES and off you go
Here's an example picture for those who don't get it
enjoy

ah, thats almost the same as the "use blank" option. mine starts up in a second anyway and i like to see the news when i launch my browser. good tip for those on dialup though. i was on dialup the other day cause my dsl wasn't working and that was horrible.

A better tip is to tell people how to prevent it from starting up at all!

I think 'Use Blank' as home page should achieve the same result.

Use blank doesn't acheive the same speed, because it still has to load the blank homepage.(notice in the bar it says about:blank, that means it had to load that like any other url thingy). But with this, it doesn't load any homepage at all, so it is faster then using about:blank. When I switched, I actually did notice a difference between about:blank and -nohome.

I always have my homepage as cnn.com
and still mine opens up under 1 sec.
Even if it doesnt open up in 1 sec it doesnt necessarily have anything to do with IE itself.
If you have multiple programs runnning like games/bittorent obviously IE will take alil bit longer to open up._______________

My home page is a local file with links to all the sites I visit, < 1 sec to load.
Now, how do we make FF faster?

Firefox doesn't load up any faster but it also doesn't download any crap faster either.
Firefox has a lot of really cool features (check under "extensions") and I feel that it is more secure than IE. It give me great control over what is transmitted from my computer to the site that I am browsing.
