So I'm probably going to bring my camera to the bar tomorrow... a bunch of the staff will be going out for our holiday party.
Thinking I'll try something a little different and pair my flash with 10-22
Any tips for shooting? I likely won't get any interesting depth of field, and I've never shot in a "bar/club" screne before. I want to experiment and have fun doing it... even if none of the shots turn out
Good opportunity to get past my funk I've been in!![]()

normally a flash in auto mode will give you a ratio of 1:1 of flash to ambient light or more which makes for well lit, flat static looking pictures of your main subject
Without knowing what kind of lighting and photos you are taking, I'd suggest you can play around with slow sync (put your camera into A mode which makes the flash a pure "fill flash". If you have the aperture so that the exposure is longish, you'll get some blurring of background objects in motion ....assuming your main subjects aren't moving). You'll probably also want second curtain sync so that the streaks of moving objects looks correctLast edited by warpdrive; Dec 12th, 2012 at 01:27 AM.

Yea this is the only thing I would do when not using a fast prime.
Shoot manual, bump the ISO, drop the shutter speed, leave the flash on TTL auto, bounce or direct flash that's up to you to play with. The streaky curtain sync effect looks cool most of the time.
Hope this advice isnt too late.

Rear curtain sync. A lot of fun for casual shots but with a bit of an artistic twist if done right.
EDIT: didn't notice warpdrive said the same thing.

ISO 400 f/2.8 or even 4, shutter speed 1/2 second to 1/15 depending on ambient light and just experiment. Flash on auto (no bouncing or stupid diffusers) and just experiment

If you scroll to the bottom, those shots with flash are what you want to aim for. And you can get that by the techniques mentioned by others here.
