I gave up on the cages a long time ago.. I just use tall bamboo stakes, and tie them off as they get taller.
They are pretty cheap, and they last a few seasons also (I've had some for nearly 10 seasons now). I just picked up a few more from HD last week, and there were $1.38 each. I take my time and select the thicker & straight ones so they last a little longer..
