Did you really say the original engine had 700,000km or is it a typo?

Is this too much for this honda?
My business associate is selling his wifes car that they no longer need;
1994 Honda Civic Ex
4-door
A/C
Color: White
He just replaced the engine which was at 700,000km, and replaced it with a japanese one with 100k on it. The body has a little bits of rust but no big deal.
He got it appraised at $2,800, selling it for $2,500 and will give it to me for $2,000 if I really want it. Is this a reasonable price? or not?
Also, comes e-tested and certified included in the $2,000.
Any input would be appreciated, thanks.

I agree, a car with that kind of mileage is really running on borrowed time. Literally everything is on it's last legs.

I would not buy the car and not for that price.
You can find cars with less Km and newer for that price

I use to work in a garage and we had a customer with a Honda Accord that went over the odometer twice and the car had 0 rust, original engine. Had a leaky gasket.
The guy takes immaculate care of all his cars...the accord he had was his work car which saw him drive ftom TO to Ottawa to Montreal daily delivering blood, organs and medical stuff.
As for the civic, $2000 is not bad as long as the car's body is solid. I'd lowball him a bit and see if he bites.
You can use the civic for now and save up to buy a nice summer car and use the civic as a winter beater.

I would wonder how worn a transmission would be with 700,000km on it.

that civic is worth buying, just not at that price. i know the guy wants to at least recover the cost of the re-re on a new engine, but don't be the guy that pays for his decisions
search on the trader and you'll find lots of options for $2500
