Any hair-salon recommendation near Young & Dundas? Ryerson Area? Budget $10-20

I know there are many near by but their price start $35 for a simple cut.
And for such a cut I must have a good hair cut in my mind, which I don't...
Hair Story. $18 after tax, I believe. Tip $5 or you're a scumbag :D

Hi Everyone,

Just wondering if you can help my daughter and I out. We don't mind traveling to Toronto (from Oakville) to get my daughter's hair done.

Things she'd like done:
- colour/dye it back to a brown color (with a few highlights) (expresso dark brown) -- is it better to buy her own dye?
- cut split ends and fix layers
- treatment to reduce fizziness and dryness

Would appreciate any salon recommendations that don't cause and arm and a leg as well as the hairstylist name and approximate pricing.

Thank you.

Since you're on here asking the above questions for your daughter I think you'll be paying. Why does that matter you may ask. Because depending on one's budget/how much willing to spend, it may be pricy to do both highlights and hair dye in the same sitting.
It can be done at home but of course requires more work but you will save a fair amount. Eccentricowl (blog website) has a really detailed posting on how to dye one's hair red at home. In your case it would be brown, but the similar process would be involved. Going to Sally's to purchase the developer, hair dye, plastic bowl, ties, etc.. If you do end up deciding to dye it at home you should pick a hairdye that has bleach in it (see below eccentricowl post) so you don't have to pre-bleach first.
http://www.eccentricowl.com/2014/09/09/ ... bleaching/

Also, depending on how light the hair colour your daughter wants, the first question is whether she'll be okay with bleaching her hair (its more damaging but not the end of the world) but depending on the shade desired she might be able to pull off without bleaching.
But if she decides to go with a hair salon, definitely bleaching or else it's the same as having it done at home with a box of walmart's hairdye but at like 4-5 times the price. Since you mentioned highlights, we're most likely looking at not-bleaching for the base colour.

Chura's prices are reasonable especially if you pick the Cut and colour option. Not familiar with their highlights though.
I don't dye my hair often though so perhaps someone else can chime in :)

Also, the length of her hair will make a big difference in the $ it will cost you. Definitely call around and give them that information if price is an important factor.
Websites pricing that says $xx and up (that amount is most likely referring to very very short hair. Don't be surprised to add $30-$50 on top for girl's hair length)

Is typically tipping around 10% of the salon cost at these hair salons?

I only pay $13 for my haircut and leave $2. :)

I've read sooo many reviews about these two places but I have no idea which one to choose. Does anyone recommend a certain stylist from either or? I haven't had a hair cut since 2011 so my hair is really long but I really need a change lol I really want to get a textured long bob but I want to make sure I get the right stylist... Any suggestions?

Anyone know of any Asian salons in Oakville that would do a good job? I'm looking to spend $10 plus a modest tip.

ohh... i only heard about miyuki through this thread. i dont know anything about the other stylists. are they all good stylists (i dont need anything amazing) and do i need to still book an appointment with them? and do they charge under $25
Unfortunately, Miyuki is currently on maternity leave. I've tried other stylists at Kamiya, even Max, but they are nowhere as good as she is. :( And no, there's no one there who cuts hair for under $25 (unless you're a boy under the age of 12, it's $20. For a girl under 12, it costs $30). Adult male, it's $40 with the manager (I think that's Max), $35 with other stylists. Adult female, it's $50 with the manager, $45 with other stylists.

I did some searching in this thread but to get an updated response:

Ombré dye jobs at GOA by Hannah is a good choice? I usually go to Chura for hair cuts and perms but I don't know much about their colourist skills especially for something like ombré which can turn out great or terrible.

(This is for female hair btw)
Hey rockthecasbah (OMG best name ever! I'm a huge Clash fan),

You should check out Hannah Hwang's Instagram. There's a bunch of pictures of different clients that she's done ombre on, they all look very good to me (she does all different colours for the ombre too, like navy blue or purple, as well as the usual reddish or brownish shades - whatever the client wants).

https://instagram.com/h2goa/

Hannah was the most popular stylist at GOA, then she got her own salon which is called H2GOA. Everyone in this thread, and on Yelp (reviews of her previous salon GOA) are all raves, so I'm seriously considering going to her for my cuts now (since my usual Holy Grail of all stylists, Miyuki of Kamiya, is on maternity leave).

Does anyone know where Connie from JJ Hair Salon went? Apparently she doesn't work there anymore and opened up her own shop. I actually prefer her to cut my hair rather Jo.
I would like to know too.
I also prefer Connie over Joe.
