Toronto to Australia
I am looking at heading to Sydney, Australia from Toronto at end of December. Best deal for the round-trip?
All airlines are seemed to be pretty expensive.
Thanks

you'd have to wait for a sale.... if it exists at that time.

Probably easier to find a seat sale from Los Angeles and once you secure that, get a cheap discout airline ticket from Buffalo or Detroit to LA.
That is usually the cheapest way to get there.

Which airline would be the cheapest from LA to Sydney?

I got a good price by booking separate Toronto-Los Angeles and Los Angeles-Melbourne tickets.
Either way, Qantas publishes their seat sales on www.qantasusa.com

I think Qantas or United are your only choices. Right now, Qantas has a sale from San Francisco, US$888 but travel has to be by the end of August. Check back with those two airlines once a week, and most likely you'll find something attractive.

UA is usually the cheapest, but you can also try NZ (via AKL) from LAX.

I'd even say look for a cheap ticket to Vancouver and fly from there. Save the trouble of flying into and out of the US. When we moved from Sydney, Australia to Toronto (well kind of), we flew Air Korea to Vancouver (decided to take 3 days stopover in Seoul), and then flew a discount flight form Vancouver to Toronto. Worked out cheaper than the any of the flights through LA or Hawaii, that's for sure, I only wish I had more time in Korea.

I would rather transit through the US onto YYZ than deal with the disgusting CBSA process in Vancouver. But then AC's new non-stop YVR-SYD service on the 77W's is really appealing.

First of all, forget Toronto, there are no cheap flights form here, the lack of competition (basically a WestJet/Air Canada duopoly), and the insane taxes, fees and facility charges make flying out of Toronto very expensive. You have to go to Buffalo or Detroit and get a domestic flight from there to LA. From BUF, you can't get anything non-stop, but there will be cheap deals from JetBlue, AirTran, Southwest or ATA - all discount airlines that serve LA and Buffalo. US Airways also has good deals sometimes.
From Detroit, you have various non-stop options, Spirit Airlines would likely be the cheap way of doing it, but you can check out Northwest as well. With a connection, you have a lot of options, Southwest Airlines likely to be the cheapest. All these companies have webisites were you can check for deals.
A friend flew from Detroit to Orlando on Spirit about 3 months ago and paid US$250 for the round trip, and that's for the entire 3-person family! That would not even cover the taxes charged when flying from TO.
