Note on Ramirez, he was the Pirates 5th best prospect then got injured and struggled a bit so we're buying low here which is fine.

He's not a power hitter, but looks to be a good disciplined hitter. If he pans out well, and Pompey gets it together, then we'd have a solid young outfield in a couple of years.

Reese McGuire.
That's not just a catcher, former top prospect. Will have to do some reading to see how he's performing. What are the Pirates thinking??

edit: [he's currently in AA and struggling a bit, they might need to move him down to high A to get his confidence back. Catchers mature a little later than other positions players]

Atkins smartly buying low here.

Light hitting catcher (in the pros) that has a reputation as an advanced defender.

Salary dump by the Pirates, Liriano 3 yrs/$39M largest contract signed by them.

Joe Sheehan @joe_sheehan
The league should really step in on this #pirates trade. It's embarrassing.

I don't think it's totally lopsided though. Hutchison has a lot of upside. He's young at 25 years of age. Lots of years of control. He's got several plus pitches and with the proven history of what Pittsburgh can do with pitchers, he can be very good. He's shown very good flashes - it's more a consistency issue than anything else.

I wouldn't be surprised, if he pitches amazing next season.

Atkins just said Sanchez will make his next 2 starts then he goes to the pen (paraphrasing). This is not fair, not fair to the fans and not fair to his teammates. Don't know anyone that would be for this except maybe Sanchez and his agent($$).
