It would be so interesting to see the various arguments presented. $6.9M requested versus $6.5M granted. They use things like comparable salaries, performance, etc. But a lot of weight given to old school stats like wins. Wonder if there's a fan out there that has charted comparable pitchers by service time and/or salary to illustrate difference or similarities in performance.

I feel like, if athletes hired an anlytics person for $10K or a fraction of that for a one-time project, they could be equipped for the arbitration with something that most players probably aren't bringing to the case with them. Difference of $400K (minus $10K or less) in this case. I'd do that for fun for one of our own. :)

Baseball is probably the closest of the major sports to doing this and I'm sure some of the advanced stats are already in play during arbitration

I just don't understand the Jays logic. Are they smart enough to offer $400,000.00 less to get him pissed off and mad and pitch like he never has pitched before or did they piss him off on purpose so when it comes time for him to sign he refuses and asks for a trade. $400,000.00 to the Jays is nothing, they spent more than that for lunch.

Couldn't agree more. I'm hoping if were in contention coming up to the trade deadline Shapiro/Atkins have money to help.

He will now or the team of Shapiro and Atkins are complete failures.

^ it really isnt that much... yes he didnt have a good year last year.. but his first year (2016, only 18 months ago) he was pretty dominant..a 0.916 WHIP and 11.6 k/9 with a 2.7 WAR as a reliever... if he performs somewhere in the middle between these two polar opposite seasons, you have a really good bargain on your hands.. and if he doesn't, then goodbye
