I just booked tickets for my family for the Christmas 2012.
Ticket is $1085 (round trip, all taxes in) for flight Toronto - Honolulu (Dec 20 - Dec 31).
It is $50 less is you fly from Kitchiner.
Above fare is found through www.farecompare.com, airline is American Airline.
Expedia, Orbitz and other have the same flight for more than $1400.
All I need now is to find good hotel and I am all set.
Hope this helps someone.

In Honolulu, one of the best web site to book hotel rooms with is discounthawaiihotels.com
We got better rates from them than any where else.

Go to the Betterbidding.com website. I've been able to score several 4* and 5* hotels for half the price of Expedia...
BTW, how is $1,085 per ticket a hot deal???

There are currently deals from Toronto to Hawaii for sub $600 but they are for August/September.
For the Christmas holidays, I think this is a good deal.

VRBO has worked well for me in Hawaii before, though I wasn't on Oahu. Demand is high that time of year, and I would get on to VRBO and similar sites ASAP. We have found condos or small houses with full kitchens, etc., for less than the cost of a hotel.
Keep an eye on where the rain falls on an Island to. Sometimes the great deal is in a rain forest area, vs. the sun on the other side of the island. I like the maps here: http://www.hawaiigaga.com/WeatherGuide.aspx#oahu

You can get airline tickets out of buffalo-vegas-honolulu for a little over 800.
The christmas season though is obviously overpriced many times over . I would still choose a rental home and go to trip advisor
