Go to Union Station, and take the streetcar to the ferry docks [Queen's Quay]
Get off and walk literally diagonally across the street, and you'll get to the docks.
Fare is usually reasonable - $4? Or something. It's not expensive, for a round trip.
Edit: P.S. Not sure if it's open today. Maybe it counts as 'tourist'.

I believe it's $6.
And yes it is open today. I was out for my run at 10 and saw there were TONS of people already with their bikes, beer coolers, BBQ grills etc....
It's going to be packed today.
BTW, i noticed there were a lot of nice look chicks going to the Island

Kind of late, but for future reference, you can take the streetcar from Union Station -- I believe it's one stop.

In addition to ferries, there are water taxis (but they charge $10 a trip whereas ferry is $6 for city --> island only and free on the way back).
If you have canoe or kayak, you can paddle there. We regularly paddle around the islands.

Does anyone know if there is free/discounted parking during weekend/holidays near the ferry docks at the foot of Bay street? I want to drive there by car and get to city islands by ferry.

AFAIK, that parking lot is now a condo construction site.
Why should there be cheap parking?
Harbourfront/Ferry Docks/Island are always super busy in the summer, esp on holidays.

You seriously don't know Montréal that much.
Westmount, Parc Jean-Drapeau, and ¨Mont-Royal¨ is as pretty as Toronto Island. There is a beach at the Parc Jean-drapeau(10min from Downtown MTL).

No, cyclist don't get run over by car.
And, we got the Bixi.

The Boucherville island are a protected park 30min from Downtown MTL.
