Edit: is RFD having a mini-fritz? My allcaps FWIW acronym failed to show up as allcaps. And some of my other capitalized words have been rendered all lowercase.[/QUOTE]
No it's not. I realized this when making some posts; If your entire post excluding anything inside BBcode is in all caps, it will make it lower-case once you post it.
So what I normall do is, I type LOL then type some random thing.
If i just typed "LOL" and posted it will turn into "lol"
If i typed "LOL that's funny" it will stay that way since the post recognizes that you also have lower-case letters and therefore you arent yelling.
I guess its to stop flamers and spammers from making threads that are just
"OMG OMG OMG U GUYZ SUCK OMG LIEK WOW WOWOWOW FLAME FLAME FLAME BICKER FLAME INSULT HI GUYS"_______________

[QUOTE=Shaner;10009025] I[B] don't know if it's due to all the different cultures that people don't bother with one another anymore[/B], but I've never seen such a cold city. Even NYC is far, far more friendly than Toronto. [/QUOTE]
How did I know even before reading your post that you'd go off on that angle? Predictable much?
Also, the bolded English makes no sense, and the following NYC comment negates the preceding stillborn, gimped-English observation. Would you look at that, Shaner Bananer! It's not just your 'ethnics' who can speak Retardlish.Last edited by Imran DeRoy; Dec 25th, 2009 at 05:04 AM.

[QUOTE=George W. Bush;10011548]We should turn to a Muslim kind of system I think, and incidents like these would not happen because people will be taught at home and in schools about respect.[/QUOTE]
Where are the Muslim countries where this has happened in parallel with a respect for human rights in general?
We would be better off just implementing the Christian system properly.LOG IN TO THANK No one has yet thanked mbg for this post.

1. This is the Toronto Star. It will always be someone else's fault.
2. I often see homeless people looking half-dead on the sidewalk. They are like seahorses -- it's hard to tell if they're alive or dead most of the time because a lot of the time they appear somewhere in between.LOG IN TO THANK No one has yet thanked mbg for this post.

This happening this close to the holidays too? Well, I'm lost for words except to say.. Fck You... and you, you, you, you and you, and you and you... the whole lot of you who avoided a man in need because god forbid it would have inconvenienced you and your all so important life. I hope that those who avoided the man succumb to a deadly disease where their genitals rot and fall off and they die a slow and horrifically painful death.

I don't know why people like you (and the Star) need to think that everyone else is just a bad person. 100% of people didn't walk past this guy because it would have "inconvenienced" them to help. They walked past him because, in Toronto, they are used to seeing people every single day lying as if half-dead on the sidewalk, or rolling around on the sidewalk making noises or acting strangely. It is normal to see this in Toronto now, and there is no reason to think that most of these people need or want any help. In this case, a mistake was made. But it was not an unexplainable or unreasonable one.

If it helps anybody... I remember one guy bailed in front of me... while I was with my girlfriend at the time of course.
He was obviously faking, but at the time it really didn't matter because the guy was willing enough to fake injuring himself enough to get himself into the hospital for a few hours I guess?
I honestly cannot prove if he was injured or not, I just really had my doubts. But hey, my girlfriend was certainly impressed.
Does it really matter? If somebody goes down... and it's not purposefully overtop of a warm sewer grate, it's pretty much a no brainer that you should help them out.
In fact, if they are not overtop a warm sewer grate, they probably won't wake up again unless you do help them out.
Honestly... why don't they just open up a subway station for the night and let the homeless crash there... What do they really have to do? Mop the floors and clean up a little in the morning? Big deal... jmo...Last edited by MrGamma; Dec 25th, 2009 at 07:14 AM.

We used to have mental hospitals, but some very compassionate people decided that it'd be better if they were closed down and a lot of these people ended up on the streets.LOG IN TO THANK No one has yet thanked mbg for this post.

On the whole, do you think society is becoming more or less sensitive to the profoundly mentally ill now that a lot of their care providers are in the private sector?[/I]

I don't know what city you are talking about. I live in Toronto and I certainly do not see people rolling around in agony on the side walk every day.
I will give you the fact that it is very common to see people laying in corners, on the side of the sidewalk, over sewer grates, etc, laying motionless, and it makes sense that not everyone would want to wake those guys up as they go by(it would be pretty annoying to the people who were trying to get some sleep).
But lying in the middle of the side walk on their back reaching out for help, that is NOT an every day occurrence, and there is no excuse not to at least call 911 for someone in that state.LOG IN TO THANK No one has yet thanked BornRuff for this post.

[QUOTE=BornRuff;10009059][B]Current[/B] Emergency First Aid and CPR should be a requirement to graduate high school. The half assed stuff they do in grade 9 gym class is not enough. Does anyone remember CPR from that?

Doesn't Toronto have one of the lowest first responder rates? Similar to the trend with blood donation?
I can understand how it comes to be this way though. I feel and act differently when I'm in Toronto. I was coming home from work today, and there were many interesting people on the nearly empty streets....I just ignored them, as they ignored me. I even try not to make continuous eye contact if they are conversing with themselves, mumbling incoherently, or picking at their clothes (or worse, skin).
There are so many people in Toronto and they mainly pass by in a blur to me everyday. I feel more connected to other people when I'm living in other cities, so I'm more likely to seek and be receptive to interaction then.Last edited by caliente; Dec 25th, 2009 at 10:01 AM.

Maybe not every day and not "in agony", but often enough to make me not even react when I see them. Granted, I usually recognize the person since I've passed by many times before. I haven't seen too much of this lately probably since it's winter. I've seen this behaviour in the past at Bay&Bloor, Bay&Queen and along King in the financial and entertainment districts. Again, it is usually the same few people so I recognize them.LOG IN TO THANK No one has yet thanked caliente for this post.
