Irrelevant even if it's true. It's the cops incompetent actions that was on trial, not the victims intent and final wishes
How about poor tactical training on the Toronto Police? Or the fact that this officer has had issues where his gun was drawn too many times (this is actually recorded and known. It was recommended he go through some kind of counselling but it's never followed up on), yet was still allowed to keep his gun and respond to emergency calls?

Sure he's a bit of a trigger happy nutjob, but it's the failings of the force in general that is the failure regarding training or designating someone fit t be a cop. Also, more officers should be allowed to have tasers. Not just the bosses.

I wonder is it possible to build a bullet proof suit. Kind of like iron man. Then cops can just go up and bear hug them. Initiate hydraulic powered bear hug. Stay there until the gun/knife is pried away from their hands.

We can go to the moon, drive electric cars, video phone our friends from across the world. MAybe it can happen :)

Troy Hurtubise (from Sudbury) has been working on various iterations of a "bear proof" suit forever it seems. Close enough maybe?

There's no need for the suit, just better training and not hiring "wanna be tough" guys. Most cops are good and will not do what happened there. A few of my cop friends said what happened on that train was just dumb. To make matters worse, they had tasers and could have easily used it, but chose to see how it feels to kill someone and decided to use lethal force against a person who really wasn't endangering them that much. They were all poorly trained a-holes who just wanted a gun and power and pointing a gun at someone or/and killing is a lot of head rush - just ask all the soldiers who go back year after year in the hot zones - quite a few serve not because they want to protect the country, but they enjoy killing and the "game of killing". But then they return to civilian lives and become cops- and that's when the problem start.

actually, only the Sgt on scene had a taser. There was nothing wrong with them having guns drawn.

I think the cop just lost it in the heat of the moment. Sammy was taunting him, and instead of keeping his cool, the cop started taking things personally & became trigger happy.

Absolutely NO need to shoot him and that too so many times. Should have waited a few minutes more, for the taser to arrive.

With so many cop guns pointed at Sammy, there was no way Sammy had a chance to knife him. If Sammy had moved forward to knife him, along with Forcillio all the other cops would have shot him too. So Forcillio was covered/protected and the other cops had his back.

Forcillio was clearly escalating the situation as opposed to deescalating it and calming things down. Just a sad & tragic event for both Sammy & Forcillio & their families.

They were, you can see clearly they guy goes down after the first shot.

The really dumb part is the taser after he's been shot 9 times. Its like they think the guy is the terminator or something.
Just sad & tragic. Could have handled it much better. Rookie mistake by Forcillio & didn't follow his training.

That is none of my business that he and his wife are divorced. Why do they have to tell us personal details unlrelated?

Sounds like you should be teaching at the police college .

Do you have any background information about this event? We didn't see what happened before the guys were on the ground so there's no reason to believe pointing a gun wasn't reasonable.

Sorry, what's wrong with that officer's action? He's alone with two suspects in a knife fight and waiting for backup. He can't proceed to handcuff one suspect and leave the other one uncovered. Pretty basic common sense.

Here's the full video with the backup arriving around the 2:00 mark and he immediately holsters his gun and calmly arrests the second man.

LOL what?. You cant see whats wrong with the officer's action?.

Two guys were on the ground. CLEARLY, listening to the cops directions. He didnt need to point the gun at them and he was pointing the gun for more than a minute. Looks like it was pointed at the other guys head.

That is terrible training.

Yes, they were clearly listening to him, which is why he wasn't shooting them. That doesn't mean pointing a gun at them wasn't warranted. He pointed it until backup could arrive.

Remind me again what police college you went to?
