Toronto Roads are now filled with cracks and potholes

So a little bit of snow and ice has caused the roads to crack and create potholes already. Even new sections that were recently paved have started to crack. Why are Toronto roads so garbage? Tax payers pay a ton of money to ensure that roads are safe and properly maintained, yet the construction companies hired to do the work do a garbage job using the cheapest quality material and the city has no quality control over this. It seems like the same roads are re-paved every year. So what are your thoughts?

Many Toronto roads have always made the list to the CAA top 10 worst roads ... city not ready to give up this infamous recognition yet

If the city actually did some quality control checking, the construction companies wouldn't get away with sub-par work and the paving would last longer.

Ice + thawing = damage. It's physics. Toronto is not special... or inept: it's because of how asphalt is made.

The roads in Quebec are terrible even when its not winter. Driving into NY and Vermont the quality is noticeable. Canada would be better with a proper main roads department and do their own repairs instead of contracting mafia owned companies to refill the same holes every year

I find more manhole covers than potholes.

This happens everywhere. It's worse with places with lots of freezing and thawing and it's worse in areas with lots of traffic. Toronto has both.

BTW, when I lived in Montreal, it was actually worse there year round, but admittedly, that was a long time ago. I don't know if it's as bad now.

Yep, it's just everywhere. Saskatoon is just awful for this as well. We have gotten more snow, so that at least helps to cover the ice ruts. Hoping we get more snow.
