So driving in Mississauga and Brampton today, the roads are smooth with no pot holes or cracks. Then driving back to Toronto I was wondering why are Toronto roads filled with cracks, pot holes and so uneven? Even the newer roads and newly paved sections as well. What is going on here?

Toronto infrastructure is at least 100 years old. Mississauga/Brampton most of it is only 40 years old.

Not just roads most of Toronto's water pipes etc are broken and there are more leaks and water line breaks in Toronto than in its suburbs. Years of neglect towards infrastructure has taken its toll.

Neglect plus more roads in Toronto to maintain.
Also the contractors/cronie involved plus age of the roads as others mentioned.
Don't forget the amount of traffic on Toronto roads.

On Kennedy just before Steeles is particularly bad. I'd avoid that section of Kennedy as much as I can.

The Gardner heading towards Scarborough/Markham is horrible. Tons of pot holes.
