Hi,
This is Denise Balkissoon from the Toronto Star. I'm collecting stories about life in Toronto's semi-detached houses and was hoping to find some interview subjects here.
Specifically, I'm looking for:
- someone who is sick of hearing their neighbours fight
- someone whose half of the semi looks very different than the other side
- someone who lives in a semi in Don Mills (with a carport would be perfect)
Any other really special stories would be welcome too. Feel free to send me an email or call - dbalkissoon at thestar dot ca, 416-869-4230.
Thanks and let me know if you have questions,
Denise

Sounds like you are trying to create news, which is why myself, and alot of others dislike news companies.
If your going to report on "someone who is sick of hearing their neighbours fight", shouldnt you also report on neighbours who are great to each other?
but doom and gloom sells right?
Its like the CBC, if a conservative makes a mistake, the headline reads "Conservative caught smoking dope", if a liberal makes a mistake, it reads "MP caught smoking dope"
but hey, until i see your article, ill give you the benefit of the doubt.

Nothing like having your own knowledge base, eh???
Hire someone WITH a knowledge base TorStar!
More damned fluff articles......written by non-journalists!

I read the star all the time, but I don't particularly like it due to reasons like this.
Why can't you just get opinions from semi owners, and see how many are happy and how many are unhappy? Rather than just look for unhappy owners and make a story based on that.

Looks like I won't be able to help. I never hear my "other half" and we get along great.
Too bad the star is only interested in a negative story about semi-detached homes. When we were looking to buy a home, we searched for a detached home, but the semi we bought was larger than the detached homes in our price range, came with a detached garage and private driveway IN Toronto.
They are a really solid option to consider if entering the housing market...

Because people here think they know everything. Perhaps, she has the other side of the story. She also states, "Any other really special stories would be welcome too".
With rising housing costs in Toronto, semis are becoming more popular with buyers but they can have downsides. I see nothing wrong with writing about them if that is in fact the focus of the story.

Sounds like everyone here is all mighty and high and full of morales. Not.
How many ppl on here, TV, news, still protests right now saying negative things about what the Toronto Police did during the G20 ?
All I hear is negative about the police. Never something positive.
So, yes, negative news sells more than positive. That's because WE buy the newspapers with negative news. We are feeding this fire.
STOP reading and buying newspapers and demand they report positive news as well.
