By "classic problem" do you mean the car stops when coming to a stop ?
The solenoid connector you're looking for is on your transmission. ie. bottom of your car.

torque converter in GM cars
so apparently I have the "classic" GM torque converter problem. I've been reading about it a lot, and apparently I can just unplug the solenoid and to temporarily solve the problem.
my issue is -- I have absolutely no idea where the solenoid is. I snapped a few pics, anyone have idea where it is?

Might be worth taking a look on this site (in their forums):
http://www.j-body.org/
On my 98 cavalier (2.4L) I had a similar problem. When I brought it in they told me that the error code was 'TCC stuck on' (torque converter)
Apparently on j-body cars it is in a really hard place to get to... was like a $20 part and $700 in labour
