Track days - comments?

So, have pretty much decided to take my car for some mild tracking after some forthcoming suspension work. Bear in mind I've not done this in Canada yet so looking for good deals and/or part-organized events if any. My local Cadillac club is fairly non-existent so looking to hop onto other organized events if possible.

I have some experience from a previous life on tracking so not a complete newbie.

I've been to Mosport (as an observer). Looks good. I know of Shannonville and Cayuga though have never visited.

How do these stack up against each other in terms of difficulty, distance from GTA and price?

Perhaps check out each track's calendar and see who's booking it? Maybe it'll shed some light of who to talk to or which club you should look into?

I know the BMW local clubs are pretty active in track days

Your best bet is to start at Mosport Driver Development track. It might be a good idea to call them up. Im sure they have a schedule of booked events and their organizers to contact.

Watch out which group you go out with and see how reputable and organized they are. There's a reason why some groups charge $35 and others charge $150.

I've seen some where there's no organization/rules what so ever and the track is just PACKED with idiots who think they're an F1 driver with no sense of consequences of their actions concerning themselves or others. I didn't drive with those guys (just spectated) and there's no way I would either.

I've also had the opportunity of driving with people who race Targa Newfoundland and GT-Alphabet and the experience was simply great. The track had a very reasonable number of cars and the drivers were actually tame.

While the point of going to the track is to drive fast, everyone just wants to have some fun and enjoy their cars. The last thing you want is to go to a track day and have some kid driving their ricebox try to pass you on the inside of a turn too hot.
