Transfering to UTSC with a B average from York?

Hey guys, I just finished up my first year as undecided major at york. Took some gen ed courses, along with a few courses towards my BHRM.
I really want to transfer to UTSC, for their BA program in economics. Is it even worth applying with a B average? Any other business programs at UTSC that I should be looking for which would be less competitive? they BBA program seems to be extremely hard to get into which is why i was considering the BA. Anyone done the switch from york to UTSC? How did you like it? What kind of marks did you need? Should I expect most of my credits to transfer over?

Just to let you know (since you came from human resources I guess), economics is math orientated. I'm assuming (correct me if I'm wrong) you had very little math while in HR. So if you comfortable with taking calculus and statistics (a lot of stats particularly), then economics would be fine.

If your thinking "no ***** economics has a lot of math, I already knew that. Do you think I'm an idiot to not know that"? I'm sorry ><" . I personally know many people who went into economics thinking there wasn't much math as you get a "Bachelor of Arts" in the end.

Economics is just in the Arts faculty.

A B average should be sufficient.

My friend got into the Econ program as a transfer student with a low B. As others have said, the arts department isnt that competitive. Yes, the business program at Uoft, esp Commerce at St george is almost impossible to get into.

I just checked the calendar. Econ minor/major is in Arts???

I think there are two Econ programs at UTSC

The management program - Econ stream gives you a BBA and you fall under the management department (more competitive)
The other Econ program that gives you a BA falls under Arts (less competitive)

SPECIALIST PROGRAM IN ECONOMICS FOR MANAGEMENT STUDIES (B.B.A.)

utsc does things a bit different. You have to choose 2 majors or 1 major and 2 minors or 1 specialist program. So it wouldn't be just economics you'd be doing you need to choose something else too. (Unless you get into the specialist program which I don't think is easy).

If you're planning to apply for this coming semester, call in before applying because I'm sure you've already passed the deadline for the fall term. It is possible that they might have spots left, so don't rule out that possibility

If you want to go for a BBA, your best bet would be a specialist in management and IT. (Compared with the other specialists, it seems like you won't need to take stats)

From the looks of it, the most math you'll do are 2 calculus courses which you'll need for some of the econ courses that are mandatory.


Ya, definitely call in to admissions since specialist programs are limited POST subjects.

So I'm in Waterloo Afm second year and i want to transfer into utsc. My avg is currently a 72, but this semester i should be able to bring it up drastically. I would say about a high 70, and I would expect above 80 for this semester. What would be my chances of getting in?

If you could bring it up past 75%, you should be fine. However, the decision is ultimately by the registrar, so there's no guarantee. I'm assuming you're trying to transfer into the BBA program.

Anyway, I'd say do a double major in economics and statistics. Very helpful.
