travelling to texas
Hi,
I will be travelling to Dallas Texas on business for 3 days. Are there any spots that you would recommend for a night out, some shopping?
Any of your past experiences are appreciated.
Thanks.
S

I'm pretty sure he said Dallas in his op.
I will most likely be going there too for 5 days, so any help on this topic would be appreciated.

Sorry, I missed the Dallas reference in the original post.
I have yet to go to Dallas, having only been to Houston, San Antonio and Galveston.
Of the three, I liked San Antonio the best, the entire downtown core is built around a river canal system, and it's amazing to just walk around and follow the river.
Have fun in Dallas, Texans are a friendly bunch!

Irving is a tough one. Not an area I ever went to very often.
Most notable attraction is Texas Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys. Also an area called Las Colinas, which has someinteresting stuff but not anything I would go out of my way for. You are quite close to the airport, so if you get off on watching airplanes, you have that going for you.
I would assume that you have a rental car or something, otherwise, there is no way for you to get around; public transportation in Dallas is a bad joke. With a car, you can jump on the interstates and get to Dallas quite quickly.
If you are in north Irving, you will use the 635 (aka LBJ (named after the president)). Take it east and you will get to north Dallas. Good shopping at the Galeria (635/ Tollway) and lots of good eating in that area (Addison is the area, the restaurant row is on Beltline)
If you are in South Irving, take I30 east to town. There is a big bunch of restaurants where the 30 and 35 merge together. If you stay on I30, you get to downtown Dallas
Downtown Dallas (and Dallas in general) doesn't have much night life. If you are a late eater, getting food can be a challenge (i.e. 9:00 pm ). The club scene is just east of downtown in Deep Ellum. Lots of bars/clubs, etc.
When are you going there? There might be some interesting things going on in town (i.e. State Fair), etc
