www.toronto.com provides alot of info for tourist especially hotels and food places. It's best to call in ahead because you can probably get better pricing and book in advance. Sometimes there are deals on the hotel's website that they wont tell you about if you walk-in in person.

Trip to Toronto
I'm going to Toronto for a couple of days in March. Does anybody know any good cheap hotels to stay in for one night? I would prefer downtown or airport(went end T.O) hotels. Thanks

Try priceline or hotwire, and limit your search to Downtown Toronto.
Go to betterbidding to check out winning bids so you have an idea of the hotel and the prices people paid.

I second the holiday inn at king/peter
Awesome location for nightlife
It's within walking distance (read, drunken stumbling) of pretty much the entire downtown clubbing district. There's also Cora's close by for a tasty brunch and the shopping district on Queen West.
Rates should be cheap too and if you need a rental there's a cheap dollar/thrifty car rental agency in the lobby.
I live down the street so feel free to PM me if you need ideas on where to go in the area.
EDIT: I should also add that the ariport express bus pickup is basically right out the front door of the holiday inn. $15 per person each way if memory serves correctly
