Aside from cost... I heard that the Scarborough RT is near it's end of life. Don't know if it is true or just a politcal ploy to get another subway built... but that's what I know.

I don't get why they built the RT in the first place.
Why not spend the money on a subway line and have it connected with the other lines. Sure, it'll cost more, but consider it a good investment. The RT will eventually be replaced by the subway anyway, so they should have just gone the subway route in the first place.
Also, I hope that the TTC and York's subway link up. If not, that's a giant waste of money and resources. The GTA needs a subway system similar to NYC. You can get anywhere in the city on the subway in New York.
Canadian governments are just too scared to spend the money. Look at Ottawa. They are going to be building a light rail train above ground, even though they're admitting that in less than 20 years, they are going to need a subway and the light rail, above ground train will no longer be needed. Why not just build the subway now and plan for the future.
Some things cities do just don't make sense. If you think about it, the more you spend on public transit, the more people will use it, the less money the city will need to spend on roads._______________
