Turtle beach DSS is $39.99 at BestBuy
comparing to $79.99 at NCIX
I know the DSS2 is coming up, but the original DSS already satisfied all I need. My computer on-board sound card gives annoying static noise in the background from Analog output to the PC spearks/headphones when playing videos, games, or even mouse dragging the scrolling bar on browsers. I searched the web for solutions, but mostly involved in expensive DAC/speakers with digital input or have to custom make grounding solutions to the PC. I was thinking to buy a separate sound card, but all the sound card drivers are pretty crappy as far I know; plus my mobo only takes PCI-E cards, which is more expensive than the PCI versions. Separate sound cards don't guarantee either to solve this problem as people claimed they still hear static noise even with separate sound cards.
This little device acts as a simple DAC, and it works perfectly for me. I hear no static noise at all now. It also includes a digital optical cable; saves trouble to buy extra stuff too.
As I search the web, I found Best buy has this device for half price from its original price when it first comes out. I guess they are clearing this out for the coming DSS2. If you care much about the sound quality, and don't want to bleed out your wallet, this is a good/easy/cheap solution. It also works for XBOX360/PS3 which is their original sale points ;p

A $3 USB sound adapter would have worked for your purpose just fine. You can even pay couple of dollars more and get one with "simulated 7.1 surround" as well.
The only advantage of the DSS is that beside "2.0 to 7.1 simulated surround" you can have "DD 5.1 to 7.1 simulated surround" too (via the optical input)._______________
Happy paying $80 for a WDTV ? Better think again, the AIOS is here.
Meet the AIOS (wiki)
XIOS is here, XBMC on sub $100 box
I hate robbers .. but I can't help it .. no wait.. went with Distributel, not for long (cable UBB), do something (Stop the meter).

I bought this at MSRP to connect my headphones to the PS3. It does what is advertised there. But when I connect it to my PC via optical cable, I can only get stereo, and no Dolby Digital. Why is that?

I've listened to the most expensive model of these headphones, and I know this might not be the thread for it, but these are pretty terrible at any price. I guess for $40, yeah ok sure... anyway to each his own.

Yeah, this definitely isn't the thread for it since the posted deal is for a surround sound processor and not the headphones =)
Anyways, I have the DSS paired with my PX21's for PS3 and it definitely provides quality surround. It's not going to impress any audiophiles but for late-night gaming when you don't want grenades and gunshots booming through your household, the combination of headphones + DSS is great.

I have some SteelSeries Siberia V2's,
They are just stereo headphones.
Would the difference be very noticeable with this?

Hey, you are welcome, glad it helps. I just find it funny that BB doesn't make this into their flyer ever since it is still like half price comparing to other store.
I was thinking to use USB sound card, altho I heard that sometimes background noise still exists from some of the USB sound cards. Plus I don't really trust my ears with $3.00 sound card. I'm also wondering if any USB sound card works for XBOX/PS3? never tried to research on this, but it seems you are experienced with these.Last edited by SAkuma; Aug 9th, 2012 at 11:57 AM.

if i see a diference

my guess : its going to work

plug your soundcard - in the second PS3 ubs slot ----------- plug your microphone only in the soundcard
