Tv
Hi there Smart Beings,
I am looking for inexpensive high quality 40" TV HDTV (LCD preferably as LED is too expensive)
My price range is $700 to $1,500 (Always best to get a unit on a great sale too).
So far I have been told Samsung is the best followed by Sony.
Most important for me is the picture and response time. I am not using this for games. Good sound and PC connectivity would be great too.
So, are there any of you that have gone through all the buying pains and can make educated suggestions.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR HELP

the z4100 is $899 with the $100 of $1000 coupon at best buy (just add a $1 filler item). Some have even managed to get best buy to honour the S560 free blu ray player promo (it maybe a mistake, but as of now there are still no correction notices), which was for any sony 40" and over. Otherwise the 5 series is probably the best option from the bunch.

EDIT: looks like its only $950 now...still a good deal, especially if you can score the free blu ray playerLast edited by zzz3; Nov 3rd, 2009 at 11:14 PM. Reason: mistake

The $100 off $1000 coupon has expired. Only a $50 off $500 coupon remains. Also, shipping for TV's 40" and larger is $55, and since that particular TV is an Online-Only special, so you'll have to fork over for shipping.
Are you sure you're not interested in an LED-TV? I'm actually for an identical TV (high-end, 40" LCD, 1080p, 120hz, primarily for PS3/360 gaming and BR playing). Right now, Sharp has a 40" LED TV for $1799 at Future Shop, not even on sale. Get a sale for a couple hundred and you're sliiightly over-budget, but you'll be getting an amazing TV. I think that's what I'll be holding out for.
There's also an LG 42" on sale for $999.99 (reg. $1299.99) that's a great TV, my parents have the 47" model (last years model, mind you) and it looks fantastic.
Also, if you're looking for more responses, make your title a little longer than two letters._______________

I already mentioned $100 off is no longer applicable, and i have updated the link to add the black model. Unfortunately for the op, none of the codes will work in store, but i think the free s560 is still on for the moment.
the sharp dosent even have local dimming = fail, especially for the price they are asking. Its far from high end, a better buy than that would be the samsung b750, without even getting into plasmas. If you want a real led, back lit with local dimming, the only way to go is the b8500, lh90 or xbr8.
at the same price point the z4100 would be a better buy.Last edited by zzz3; Nov 3rd, 2009 at 11:20 PM.

True say about local dimming, didn't realize it lacked that feature.
Again, if you're looking at spending a bit more than you'd hoped, the LG 42LH90 is priced at $1699.99 at Best Buy at the moment. You could also PM at Future Shop, as they have the same set for $2199.99! You're total would be $1649.99 for a high-end LED set, as zzz3 mentioned._______________

Yeah it's really frustrating to see such a huge price difference given the parity of our dollar! Like I can understand a $200 difference or so, but come on, not $600! My budget for a TV right now is about $1500, and there's about 19 TVs I'm considering haha. Do you know if 120Hz is an important feature for a TV used primarily for gaming, zzz3? I can eliminate about 5 of the sets that are 60Hz if it's important haha. I'm also taking a hard look at the Panny plasmas, I've heard many good things about them!

well are your games running at 60 fps? lol i think the benefit is the improved pq that comes with 120hz panel that is of more help than 120hz it self. I bought a xbr6 solely because i needed a thin frame and at maximum 40". I would have bought a plasma because they usually have better motion resolution and better response time but the smallest one is 42" (else i would have purchased a g10/15). With game mode on, which turns off all video processing to reduce any lag, i still notice blur occasionally in cod4 as an example. Maybe the newer lcds with 240hz and 2ms response times might help (i always thought tn panel was best for gaming however it seems everyone is moving towards spva like the b750), but for me nothing beats gaming on my kuro. In the mean time im thinking of selling my xbr6 to try the b750, but only if it comes down to under 1300 for the 40".

Models recommended by Consummer's Report Magazines
Any takes or information on the stuff listed below, please knock yourselves off. Thank you very much to all contributors. Very kind of you!!!
I am looking for something fast but not as fast as for gamming... sorry to disappoint you. I am not into that, but appreciate seeing a good movie the way it was intended and maybe even using the TV as a giant monitor once in a blue-moon only.
So here are some top models recommended by Consummer's Report Magazines
My wife seems to fafor Samsung already... vibes and what she has read/heard I guess.
40 and 42 inches LCD displays:
- Samsung UN40B6000 - ($1,300 - sort of within budget but still too high) Scoring 72 points
- Sony Bravia KLV-40ZX1M - ($2,200 - too expensive) - Scoring 67 points
Fewer repairs quoted for Sony and a bit more quoted for Samsung
Most dealers seem to favor Samsung but there are quite a few mixed messages all over.
The source has a nice sale on Sony TVs this week. I am interested in a 40-42 inch TV, likely 40, but not sure yet due to space constrains.
So, any comments, feel free to do your stuff... thanks again and enjoy our weekend.... please make time to go out on Sunday as it will be warm

I doubt you'd fine the Samsung UN40B6000 for $1300 anywhere..it's listed at $1499.99 at Amazon.com.
I'd think you'd be very happy with this TV: http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pro...0122282&catid=

Did anyone purchase Samsung LED TV from http://www.green-furniture.ca ? They claimed to be Samsung authorized retailer, but I couldn't confirm it on samsung.ca site (they list futureshop, visions.ca and few other stores among authorized dealers). Their prices are very decent and in fact on par with american counterpart considering current currency exchange rate.
