Two LG DVD burners, which one is better? and why?
Here are two DVD burners I found
GSA-4163B
and the
GSA-4160B
Don't judge by price, judge by specifications, which burner is better and by how much?....
they look pretty much the same to mee....
Thanks

have you read reviews? google both
also http://www.cdfreaks.com/article/172
also search the forums here
the 4160 is an older model then the 4163
I think the LG 4163 is a much better buy and its cheaper due to sale. Picked up the lg 4163 in blk today for $85 + taxes from icct.ca and am very happy with it.
On the lg forum of cdfreaks i see more ppl complaining about the 4160 than the 4163.

But seeing how the LG-4163B is new, I don't think it's gotten that many reviews..

the 4163 came out in nov, so not too new. eg Pioneer A09 just came out, and a new plextor is scheduled for March-April.
Anyhow, the 4163 is an updated , some specs are better (read fast) and from what i have read on the Lg forum ppl are more impressed with the 4163 than the 4160.
Besides, why would you want to spend so much more money on older generation dvd burner 4160? 170-90= save $80 and have a faster newer generation dvd burner.
I could understand spending more if it was a Plextor, but not a older generation burner by the same company.
here is a link to compare specs http://ca.lge.com/en/prodcompare.do?...elect+a+model#
here is a link to the LG forum i was writing about earlier

oh btw futureshop has very inflated prices sometimes.
have a look at this link
http://pccanada.com/inventory.asp?cat=cdrom
note that the 4160 is $15 cheaper than the 4163, thats sounds right.
also note that LG GSA-4160B Dual Layer DVD+/-RW Drive (IDE) "( Soon to be discontinued )."
Replaced by the 4163

Why do you want a LG burner?
Pioneer 108 is a solid drive for the same price, if not less.

You don't really here anything about Pioneers or NEC's down here in halifax, ... only seems that Benq's and LG's are the only good ones, gawd were so behind..

pioneer actually makes the best DVD-ROMs in the business I do believe, but they usually top out at the high end of the price list. I would go with the 4160B, I've always liked LG. Ncix usually has some good weekly specials on that drive too I believe.

one of the major difference is the 4163 has bitsetting. Meaning, it can change the book type of RW to ROM so a set top player can recognize the disk.

Pioneer's DVD-ROM's are now made by BenQ by the way

I suppose if you don't consider the difference in speed or write quality that would be true

Please do not get the GSA-4160B one. Its a bad one even with if people here post their own "experience" that this drive is good and blablabla later....

So some people like theirs&working great for them so they recommand it. What the hell is wrong with that? It beats hearing from people who only hear certain drives are best and all.
