What's your overrall average? They'll look at that. Even if you don't make it go do your courses at a college, it's a lot cheaper.

UBC admissions
I took english 12 in the summer and I got 79 percent overall. I am planning to retake the english provincial to increase my mark. Now my question is that I applied to UBC and I was wondering when they make their final decisions because I am going to do the rewrite in April, so would they even look at that mark or would it be too late? because they marks would come out at the end of may.
This is what UBC says:
- UBC's self admission system will be open via the SSC during March and April.
During this time, we will make admission decisions based on the information you
self-report.
- In May, we will receive your official interim grades from the Ministry of
Education to confirm the information you self-report.
- In July we will receive your official final grades from the Ministry of
Education to ensure all requirements have been fulfilled.
So does that mean if your grades during the self report were to low but your finals grades were high then they will accept you?

My overall average is about 86.75 I applied to the UBC Sciences you must get 84-90 . However if I rewrite the english provincial and get like 75 on it I will go up to a 88 percent average.

Math 90 before provincal Im guessing ill get 88 after
Biology 88 after provincial
Geography 92 before Provincial Im guessing ill get 90 after
English 79 after provincial
I will be using those four courses probally. Unless my chem mark is higher then my bio.
Chem
Physics
Provincals are worth 40 percent of our grade.

My dilema is that I can rewrite the english provincal only once and I can choose to write it in two days or wait in April. I just want to know if they would look at that mark or would it be to late by then. I dont want to write it right now because I havent prepared at all.

I think you'll be fine if you have a clean record and good academic high school courses. I know someone who got into UBC with an 86% average but he didn't get into sciences he took accounting but I think you'll be ok with that average as long as you got a clean record and good classes. Anyways if ya don't make it this time around it can be a good thing as well cause you'll save some money by taking the college route but I think you'll get in.
Good luck

Science offered a broad-based admission option for high school applicants who indicated Science was their first choice and had an 84-88% average on spring grades.
Now what does that mean?

It's not too late to re-write in April because they re-evaluate all marks in July anyways. Basically, the admission/scholarship offer you get based on self reporting is useless because they recalculate all final marks and if provincials have made your mark drop, your offer gets thrown out (at least it's what they claim). Conversely, don't worry if your mark is low for now. What matters is the final mark after June provincials.
Broad-based admission is for people who have lower grades, but can try to apply using things like exceptional volunteer service, involvement, etc. etc.

See you next year if you get in.
I got nominated for the UBC Major Entrance scholarship.....ugh don't even feel like writing my personal essay and finding references. My mark is only a 94.25 (even lower once you count everything), and my extracurriculars aren't that good... average at best, so nil chance of winning._______________

Hopefully, you can pull up your average using math 12.... it's pretty easy to get 100% if you actually study for a good couple days.
As for English it's possible to do really well, you never know... the first time I wrote the provincial I got like 88% and felt like *****, but the second time I got 98%.
All I can say for Physics and Chem is don't underestimate it. I finished my AP's in gr11 and UBC guaranteed a 96% conversion, so I didn't really care .... But I still thought I'd own the provincials. Ended up like low 90's, which is embarrassing considering TONS of normal gr12's get 95%+. The point is, study hard and you'll do fine.
I don't know if you have the willpower or interest to do this (I didn't), but a couple of my friends got together every week and wrote timed essays, then shared and discussed them, and asked the teacher to critique them. Apparently it worked, because they all ended up with 99,98,97% marks in English (mine was just a fluke, but theirs was earned). The key is practice, that's why AP students do so well on the provincial, because they're trained to read and analyze a piece of literature and write an essay in 40 minutes. When I first started the course, I couldn't even finish half of my essay. After having so much practice, the provincial becomes a joke (literally, for the last essay, I wrote about UFO's and aliens taking over the earth).

Just came home from writing the Physics 12 provincial! I'm in grade 12 and planning on going to UBC Science next year. When the UBC rep came to my school, I asked her about the conditional acceptance offers made in April and what "conditional" meant. She told me the offers made aren't really conditional, they're pretty much set. They won't care if you drop from 100 to 80, only if you end up with around 60% or lower.
Not too sure if that's totally accurate, but that's what the admissions rep told me. I think if you end up with a higher mark in July and you didn't get accepted in April, they will reconsider you based on your new marks._______________
