ubuntu, screen looks fuzzy

Hi,

I am trying out ubuntu, I set the screen resolution to 1440x900, which is the native rez of my laptop screen, but it still looks fuzzy like running a non native screen resolution. It does not actually look as bad as running a non native screen resolution, it is just something does not look right.

In windows everything looks so much crisper and easier to read.

Is this something I have to live with or is there a solution?

I would check the Ubuntu forums rather than here, but I would check drivers, monitor setup, and refresh rate. LCD refresh rate should be 60.

I just installed Ubuntu on a spare drive and am thinking of moving to it from my old unsupported Fedora Core 5. I don't remember how to, but I had to manually go to the screen setup and resolution GUI utility by using the file browser. I also had to manually update the xorg.conf with the openchrome driver for my on board video.

I'm not really feeling Ubuntu. The dumbed down services GUI utility, sudo crap, and monitor problems I've been having, mean I might just upgrade to the latest Fedora Core rather than fight with this thing anymore. I have to fudge the thing so that I can use SWAT.

Actually it is the font in firefox that looks like ass, so ubuntu is not to blame.

I also had terrible font when I tried Ubuntu and used the Opera Browser. I had to live with crappy resolution.

As for Ubuntu, in general, there is a rather involved procedure required to install the video card drivers for Ubuntu. You're best to check at the Ubuntu forum.

im guessing 14" screen on a laptop

as suggested before...
make sure updates are all done

and enable restricted drivers for hardware for your gpu

after i did that for my geforce 7700
everything became much better
