Machinery these days are good. I wouldn't worry about it at all. Don't be too gung-ho about running-in the engine. Try to do it while you can, but it's not the end of the world if you rev it up too high

Uh Oh...Speeded
Oh no...
I was waiting in line with my car for a car wash.
I pressed too hard on the accelerator while in park..reaching 5x6000 rpm..
This is a new Corolla with 260 km on it..
Am i screwed?

no worries,
1-2 seconds won't hurt. break-in period just suggests that you don't push your engine too hard (constantly) for the first while.
and as mentioned, new engines these days are really good and barely require any break-in period. Reply With Quote

i heard that toyota's engine are all broken in in factory.
They mount them on a stand and just let it run.
just a rumour, i saw photos of it...maybe not for every car._______________

As stated above, I also did hear that engines are already factory 'broken in' so to speak. But I still did the normal break-in procedures (i.e. - vary your revs, etc) just because I thought it would help the engine more.
But to answer your question - you definitely didn't damage your car or void your warranty

Not sure about that these days. One guy over in the TSX forums had some problem with the tranny or soemthing and the dealer would not warrant it cause of abuse (they check the computer and it showed he had revved up past the redline) Originally Posted by dmatthew

Don't most Toyota automatics have a rev-limiter while in park? Somewhere between 3-4,000 rpm?
Considering you already need to push the car to those rev's on some of the shorter highway on-ramps there isn't anything to worry about. Reply With Quote
