pretty decent deal on a very good power supply. multiple reviewers have tested it with a load tester (actually know what they are talking about)
(this is the lowest price I have ever seen on this unit)

This is one of Ultra's good models and is an Andyson build, so it's high quality.
The efficiency won't be as good as anything released over the last year, but if you need something of this power, then it's a good choice if you want to save some money.
Here is the Jonnyguru review.

Can anyone comment on how loud the fans are? Also is the fan speed adjustable?

PASS.
Look at the efficiency:

Then compare it to this:
http://ncix.com/products/index.php?s...e=COOLERMASTER
For $10 extra bucks you can save the planet!
They are both single rail, but the coolermaster one is definitely higher quality.

not bad for a 1000W psu, and it's one of the X3 model, so it's not the usual crappy ultra you see.

Here is the review for the Cooler Master, and FSP is the OEM. I think the Andyson Ultra is a touch better in terms of build quality, and I'm still somewhat wary of FSP's quality as it had gone down in previous years, although this one does look ok.

I was considering this for 24/7 use, occasional gaming and possibly SLi in the future. I can save $70+ over an Antec equivalent but I want to be as green as possible and I don't want a block heater during the summer either.
Good price for a normal use gaming PC but I think I'll have to look elsewhere. There seems to be some reports of electrical buzzing too on the TD reviews.

How about the fact that the cooolermaster has a 80 plus bronze while the ultra does not?
That requires third party standardized testing.

This is true, but efficiency isn't everything and there are a number of variables for PSU quality.
Nowadays I tend to check reviews done by Jonnyguru and HardOCP as both websites have provided an accurate measurement of PSU quality in the past.
I tend to be more wary of manufacturer specifications with PSUs and 'reviews' that amount to little more than plugging the PSU in and checking it with a multimeter. To me it's the most important part of your system and I tend to be very cynical because of this.
In terms of the Coolermaster and the Ultra, I think you would be happy either way and the Coolermaster looks better if you have a low wattage system (although you could probably save money by buying something else
).
Even if I like the Ultra more, neither is likely to explode and take your system with it.
