an ultra x2 started a fire in one of my computers. no joke. Not touching their brand again. I've had $50 no name power supplies that have had the good grace to die without burning the rest of the computer to death.

I was just looking at the Jonnyguru reviews for both.
http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php...tory3&reid=166 - Cooler Master
http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php...Story2&reid=41 - Ultra
The efficiency with the Cooler Master is a fair amount better than the Ultra below 600W, and at that power level you're nowhere near close to taxing the PSU, with the Cooler Master performing very well. However, as I mentioned, if you're not really needing 1000W, then it would probably be best to get something different and cheaper.

Interesting stuff. It looks like both ain't the hottest at voltage regulation. While I honestly don't know if that would even matter in the long run, you get what you pay for.
I am now considering bucking up for either:
XFX 850W Black Edition
Corsair HX850W

Get a quality PSU
Ultra is really hit or miss, stick with a quality PSU. It's the heart beat of any system. Dont skimp on it.
PC Power & Cooling is good
OCZ gameXStream 700W is also good
Corsair
Antec Quattro
Silverstone
Seatronics
Im on the fence still with Thermaltake. If you're going to go with them, get the Toughpower brand.

OCZ is another hit and miss cuz they use so many OEM manufacturers, you have to do your research before you get them.
Seatronics? you mean Seasonic, yeah, their psu are great, I pretty much use them in all my pcs.
Silverstone, they also requires a bit of research.
Antec, the signature, earthwatt, truepower series are all fairly good.

While I appreciate the attempt to talk a good "PSU snob" game, you fail in the face of evidence presented earlier in this thread. This IS a quality PSU (3x more than I need however)
