Okay thank you. I have a question about first year chemistry at UWO. I took chemistry in my gr.11 year but i never did for my gr.12. Am i completely screwed for this course? Or is the gr.12 stuff reviewed well in first semester? Enough that i can keep up anyways. Cause i keep hearing how chemistry is the hardest course and im afraid ill fall behind cause i dont have enough background in it!

There should be adequate introduction to topics but be sure to stay on top of that course if you're unsure about it. From what I understand from talking to Felix (prof of Chem) they merged the two chem classes into 1 so there isn't that option that bestknightmate talked about anymore.

oh man, was first year med sci ever rough....
wait...it wasn't. TBH i went to 40% of classes and still did well, you have to know yourself(how you study/learn, and wat you need to do in tests/exams, KEY!!!) and LISTEN in lectures, you'll find all these people typing like crazy, and not even listening to what the profs are saying. then later when they read over notes (this example is basically for cal/bio) they don't know wtf they're reading, while if you listened and understood, u jus remind ur self. oh and that new chem course, yea, they totally ****ed it up with us, glad we were the dummies, lets jus say that the profs disabled the discussion boards on WebCT for some unkind words, TWICE, coincidently around tests that resembled nothing of the workbook, and to whoever was askin about SAO, go, believe me you meet a lot of ppl and you have people you know before u even go there, mostly girls, which is good, trust
.

I think all about-to-be first year students, please read this newspaper article
http://www.thestar.com/article/614219
and I quote "Wikipedia generation is lazy and unprepared for university's rigours, survey of faculty says"
In terms of the closing of the forum on WebCT, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to view some of the posts, for 3 years in a row. The maturity of the students changed so much. They start to blame prof for giving impossible exams and started stalking the prof. So I think the prof had good reasons to close it down.

believe me, if anyone learned ANY independent study, its me. I went from 0 studying in high school, to some studying in university, and I'll admit, if I reviewed material for bio before exams, my average would hit 90. But I never got to read the webboard, i posted once concerning a question on the test, next day, its closed, and I dind't get that question answered. I didn't know they stalked them, thats kind of pushing it, but the students had a point about the test and workbook, but the tests were ranging from easy to mediocre.

I get the listening in classes, but if you dont have anything written down you're unlikely to remember everything. I wish i could bring a little tape recorder lol. And yes a friend of mine told me they really messed up first year chem too, did most ppl end up failing that class? Or was it still managable w/out CT and the weird exams? I hope they improve it by next year lol

I can only find the 2008-2009 one.

well i mean writing stuff down to, but not to the point where ur just hearing and writing/typing. I dunno, i found the chem to be pretty do-able tbh, but I messed up some EASY questions on tests, but a lot of ppl had no idea wat was going on. So yea, the actual material is easy enough so that you don't have to even go to class, i didn't much cuz it was at 8:30 in the morning, n i lived 40 minutes away(bus ride alone)....sleep in ftw..
